The science and technology with which TIG deals is centered around the phenomenon known as light. Light is usually thought of as visible radiation but we deal with light at other wavelengths as well. Light can be used to illuminate scenes, convey information or modify materials, and we are concerned with all of these applications. Our scope involves all technologies relating to the creation and control of light. It also encompasses effects of light such as image formation and capture. Some representative technologies are optics, heat transfer, electronics, mechanical design, image science and materials science.
